Pathfinder & Adventurer Organisation

Pathfinders

Pathfinders is a worldwide organization of young people sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, though young people of any religious persuasion, or none at all, are welcome and encouraged to join the organization.It is a church centred spiritual recreation activity programme designed for young people aged from 10 to 16 years old.

The Pathfinder Law and Pledge

The Pledge:- By the grace of God, I will be pure and kind and true. I will keep the Pathfinder law, be a servant to God and a friend to man.

The Law is for me to:-

• Keep the morning watch,
• Do my honest part,
• Care for my body,
• Keep a level eye,
• Be courteous and obedient,
• Walk softly in the sanctuary,
• Keep a Song in my heart,
• Go on God's errands

Adventurers

Adventurers caters for the younger age group.

Adventurer Law and Pledge

Adventurer pledge:- Because Jesus loves me, I will always do my best.

Adventurer Law:- Jesus can help me to be obedient, attentive, pure, helpful, true, cheerful, kind, thoughtful, respectful, reverent, attentive and helpful.

The Pathfinder Organisation

The organisation is divided into classes depending on age/school year, each with their own name. In practise where there are small numbers several classes work together.

Adventurers

• Busy Bee Year 2
• Sunbeam Year 3
• Builder Year 4
• Helping Hand Year 5

Pathfinders

• Friend Year 6
• Companion Year 7
• Explorer Year 8
• Ranger Year 9
• Voyager Year 10
• Guide Year 11

Each Pathfinder class follows a core curriculum including the following facets

• general items,
• spiritual discovery,
• serving others,
• friendship development,
• health and fitness,
• organisation and leadership development,
• nature study,
• outdoor life,
• lifestyle enrichment.

As part of their class work, Pathfinders can work towards badges or honours in many different subjects as varied as cats, cooking, Christian storytelling, camping and knot tying. A full list is at this site. The list of Adventurer awards is here.

Uniforms

The Pathfinder uniform consists of the following:

• Pathfinder scarf and woggle
• Army dress shirt number two
• On the right sleeve there is a Pathfinder club name and a 3 inch Pathfinder triangle badge
• On the left sleeve there is a Pathfinder world badge
• Green sash with Pathfinder triangle
• Black skirt or black trousers
• Beret
• Tie
• Black shoes

The Adventurer uniform consists of:

• Sky blue child sized scarf plus woggle
• White long sleeved shirt or blouse
• On the right sleeve adventurer club name & badge
• On the right sleeve Adventurer world badge
• Navy blue sash
• Navy blue skirt or trousers
• Black shoes

The Eager Beaver uniform:

• Green plus woggle
• White long sleeved shirt or blouse
• On the right sleeve adventurer club name & badge
• On the right sleeve Adventurer world badge
• Navy blue skirt or trousers
• Black shoes

The Meaning of the Pathfinders club emblem

The badge or club emblem of the Pathfinders is intended to act as a reminder of some of the goals of a Christian.

Eight points are outlined as follows.

Red (Sacrifice)

• Reminds us of Christ. “For God so loved the world that He gave HIs only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
• “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God” (Romans 12:1)

White (Purity)

• We desire to have the purity and righteousness of Christ’s life in our lives.
• “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment.” (Revelations 3:5)

Blue (Loyalty)

• It is the purpose of the Pathfinder Club to help teach us to be loyal to:
• Our God in heaven; our parents, our church.

Gold (Excellence)

• Standard of measurement. The Pathfinder Club has high standards to help build strong character for the kingdom of heaven.
• “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich.” (Revelations 3:18)

Three sides (Completeness)

• Completeness of the Godhead – Father, Son, Holy Ghost.
• Tripod of education:
  • Mental-Crafts and honours.
  • Physical-Campouts, work bees.
  • Spiritual-Missionary activities, witnessing

The inverted triangle

• It illustrates the inverted order of importance, to put the needs of others above our own.

Shield (Protection)

• In the Scripture, God is often called the shield of His people. “Fear not . . . I am thy shield.” (Genesis 15:1)

Sword (Bible)

• The sword is used in warfare. A battle is always won by offence. We are in a battle against sin, and our weapon is the Word of God.
• The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)
