Cookery Demonstrations
These are held most months at 19.00 on a Monday. Often, but not always, on the first Monday of the month.
We believe in making the most of this life as well as looking forward to the next.
For 140 years the Seventh-day Adventist Church has been telling people that we do not have to have a live artificially shortened by smoking and inadequate diet – and that the longer life can be an active and happy one.
For many years we were scoffed at by much of the medical profession over our condemnation of smoking as a danger to our health. It would be a brave doctor who did that now.
Since we believe that a good diet is essential, we encourage the choice of the best foods available.
It is our opinion that for most people, in most situations, a diet free of meat, fish and fowl is preferable. Ongoing research carried out over the last few years suggests that on average we can add several years to our life span by following this practise.
Since it is pointless having great foods if they are not prepared properly to produce mouth watering meals, many of the Adventist Churches run sessions on producing and demonstrating cooking.
Norma is responsible for organising our cookery evenings. She arranges for different members and friends to talk about and demonstrate the preparation of healthy, tasty meals as well as providing an assortment of her own dishes.
We get a good mixture of men as well as ladies and also young as well as the not so young.
For some strange reason there always seem to be even more people at the tasting session at the close of the meeting than there are for the actual demonstrations. This could be a good advert for the dishes that have been prepared. There is a nominal charge for materials.
